Hi, I’m Ragab Rashwan, but that’s probably too hard for you to say so call me Rocky. I come from Egypt where my grandfather built the pyramids. I’m more interested in food than building though, and that’s why I’m here. Cooking is my passion. I’m happiest when I’m around food. Making it. Feeding it to others.
When I was 16, I worked as a waiter in a famous resort on the Red Sea. But I was so curious about the food I saw there I switched to work in the kitchen even though being a waiter was easier. At several 5 star hotels in the region I watched and worked next to Egypt’s most famous chefs.
A few years later, this time in Cairo, I worked in an elite catering business. It was extremely fancy and very international. And that’s when I realized that my favorite foods were traditional Egyptian dishes, the ones my mother still cooks on an open fire or bakes in a mud oven. She says that food cooked with gas doesn’t taste the same. This was the food I wanted to share and build a community around.
